The Purples and the Pinks.
I have file upon file of images – old botanical illustrations, paintings & photographs… I love looking through them and matching them to yarn colours.
The colour of the skein above is Rose Petals. It reminds me of a particular rambling rose in my grandmother’s garden – a tiny bloom with dark edges, fading into a pink and yellow centre. An old fashioned rose – I don’t know the name, those days and the rose bush are long gone.
The dye pot is like a lover – the one you’ll never forget. There’s disappointment and laughter and sheer delight. The power of the unknown and the constant surprise.
The skein above was totally unexpected. It almost left my studio yesterday and I felt a pang.
I’ve hidden it away.
The dark ones are called Mandrake, I think. Or perhaps Nightshade.
I do like the idea of them together.
