Wishbone Yarns are dyed in small batches of ten to fifteen. Please make sure that you purchase enough yarn for your project, as even repeatable colour ways differ from batch to batch. All yarn is dyed utilising African rain water which we gather in large tanks in our garden and, since we have moved to the Karoo – well-point water. South Africa is still in the grips of a devastating drought cycle. I do all I possibly can to minimise the waste of water – dye baths are exhausted completely and the water is used over again. Wishbone yarns are rinsed in Bio-degradable, organic Castile soap and this water is then used to sustain our small vegetable and salad garden.
As I care deeply about the environment and the footprint we leave, I am using recyclable, biodegradable packaging wherever possible.
Since the start of the Covid-19 crisis, I have not been able to use the South African Post Office for shipping, as they abruptly stopped accepting foreign mail. At present they are functioning at about 30% of their normal capacity and experiencing closures of branches and diminished staff due to the Virus. They are again accepting parcels, but with no time guarantees and at the same dealing with a huge backlog. I will keep an eye on the situation.
From 16 June 2020, Wishbone Yarn will solely be using international door to door couriers to deliver overseas parcels. Although there are still mail delays all over the world, parcels have been arriving within one week and have comprehensive tracking throughout.
Unfortunately, there is no longer an economical shipping rate for 1-4 skeins of yarn. There is a flat rate of approximately $35 which is applicable for 1-8 skeins of yarn, after which the cost appreciates in 500g increments.

Please note that import duties – if applicable, remain the responsibility of the recipient, not the sender.
Please double check your delivery address and telephone number before paying (and please note that delivery is NOT possible to Post Office Boxes, only to street addresses) The couriers will do their best to contact you via email and telephone, but if a parcel is not delivered after the second attempt, it will be returned to South Africa.
Wishbone Yarn does not accept responsibility if a parcel is returned to South Africa due to non-delivery. However, I will repackage your parcel and resend it once shipping has been paid in full. This offer is valid for three weeks from date of notification – if not settled, contents will be donated to a worthy cause.
Parcels are dispatched 2-3 times monthly, according to volume.
Please note that I am able to send parcels almost anywhere in the world, but that not all countries are in the site drop-down menu. Certain countries (Australia, New Zealand, South America, etc) have many addresses that are deemed outlying or remote by DHL. This has a big impact on the shipping charges, but can often be avoided by having your parcel sent to someone in a nearby town or city. Please contact me for a shipping quote to your area – I am happy to help.
For South African customers – we are now mostly living in a rural area of the Great Karoo. Unfortunately studio visits are not possible at present.
Payment is via trusted payment gateway PayFast – either by credit card or debit card, or instant EFT.
For overseas customers, PayFast also accepts international credit cards, although the amount will appear as ZAR (South African Rands). Please check the currency conversion before checkout.
PayFast has recommended the latest version of Google Chrome as the safest internet browser. (Firefox after that and Safari not recommended at all)
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Since the end of 2019, international rules regarding credit card payments to South Africa have changed – if your PayFast payment will not go through, it is necessary to phone your Credit Card Company and give a once-off verbal authorisation for payment.
If problems persist, you are welcome to contact me for a PayPal payment, but please be aware that a conversion/transaction fee will apply.
Unfortunately – due to vast distances travelled by parcels – exchanges are not possible after purchase. Multiple orders can be consolidated, but refunds on shipping are not possible.
